Seine Heiligkeit der XVII. Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje ist das spirituelle Oberhaupt und Linienhalter der Karma Kagyu Tradition des Tibetischen Buddhismus. Karmapa verkörpert die Aktivität aller Buddhas der drei Zeiten und gilt als Ausstrahlung des Bodhisattva Chenresig, der Manifestation der erwachten Liebe und des tiefen Mitgefühls.
Der XVII. Gyalwang Karmapa wurde 1985 in Ost-Tibet geboren und 1992 im Kloster Tsurphu in Zentraltibet, dem Stammsitz der Karmapas, inthronisiert.
Seit seiner Flucht aus Tibet im Jahre 2000 lebt er in Nordindien.
Er ist der Schirmherr der Karma Kagyu Gemeinschaft Deutschlands, des Kamalashila Instituts®, des Klausurzentrums Karma Tekchen Yi Ong Ling und aller Stadtzentren der Karma Kagyu Gemeinschaft.
